The Great Pendragon
Kent, Saxons & the Gwessi
Traditional Home of the the Gwessi Tribe of the Cymri, who were the ruling family in the time of King Vortigern.
Closely allied to, and inter married with, the Saxon Mercenaries under the command Saxon kings Hengest and Horsa. The two royal families became closely bound when King Vortigern married the Saxon Princess Rowena. the lands of Gwessi, now renamed Kent, were given to the Princess as gift to seal the wedding.
The Gwessi were dispersed across many Saxons Kingdoms after the Battle of Kent in 470AD, when Duke Eldol of Gloucester slew King Hengist in single combat, a great victory in the the Rise of the Pendragons.
Kent was retaken by Hengists Son Aesc in 473 AD, but changed hands again coming back under the control of Albion. The remaining royal family, including the young Prince Cerdic (Son of Vortigern and Nephew of King Aesc) , fled back to the northern wastes of the mainland, but their envious eyes look always to the sunlit land of Albion…
In 484 AD, King Aesc returned once more to secure the lands of Kent for the Saxons.
‘King’ Cerdic has made a great name for himself fighting on the mainland as the head of a large mercenary force. Most recently he has had several major successes fighting the Franks.
